The new album of the British EBM/industrial outfit Inertia is out. To be honest i have never been a real fan of Inertia so far because in my opinion they often fell short with regards to songwriting. Until now. As this album musicwise marks a new start for Inertia which really works well. It probably are the experiences of Reza with Killing Joke that have lead to a different approach with Inertia in which the guitar gets to play an important role. Also the songs itself are more gripping and compelling than before, with the infectious ‘The Preacher’, ‘Follow Me’ and the by Alexis seductively sung ‘Sister’s Moment’. This new Inertia album also has some appealing catchy dancefloor tracks with the electroclash EBM track ‘Pressure’ sung by Alexys and with guest part by Client E on bass guitar, the aggressive and very danceable ‘Repent’ and the dreamy yet quite heavy track ‘Higher’, but most of all the merciless catchy and danceable guitardriven song ‘Paralyzed’, that without doubt is one of the best Inertia songs ever. Experimental moments are featured in ‘Le Cirque Noir’ which has a touch of dark cabaret in the gloomy electronic sounds and make it perfectly fitting the current zeitgeist and in ‘Lost’ that at moments reminds of Depeche Mode. This new album that is probably not named ‘Inertia’ by co-incidence offers a lot of variation and has a well-balanced tracklist. It has no fillers but only very accomplished tracks. A really good achievement. This without doubt is the best Inertia album so far. |
